MISSION STATEMENT

The Quincy Society of Fine Arts, America's 1st Arts Council, was founded in 1947.  QSFA works to foster, strengthen, and expand the language, visual, and performing arts in Adams County, Illinois.

QSFA's national award-winning programs : (1) work to expand our economy, (2) strengthen education, and (3) insure cost-effective arts services for everyone.

QSFA responds to the needs of 62 arts organizations for arts program grants, cost-effective services, marketing, audience expansion, and cooperative programming.

QSFA takes the initiative in exploring new possibilities for community arts involvement, developing opportunities for employment in the arts, and expanding resources available to artists, arts groups and special constituencies.

QSFA sponsors cooperative programs and services to develop new audiences for our member organizations such as the Arts/Quincy monthly publication, Arts=Education, Art$ Dollar$, Arts/Quincy Riverfest, In$tant Art$ Dollar$, Arts/Quincy TV and radio commercials, the Rave! television program, Marion Gardner Jackson Trust Arts Fund, 24-hour Fun Line, All-American Kids Awards, Annual Arts Calendar, National Arts Week Celebration, City of Quincy Arts Awards, and cost-effective management services.

In 1985 the City of Quincy received the Governor's Award for the Arts from the Illinois Arts Council.   QSFA won three major national awards for excellence, including an annual award from New York's Business Committee for the Arts. 

QSFA Management Structure:  QSFA is governed by a board of directors with as many as 112 members.  The 15 member executive committee is made up of officers and standing committee chairs.  A staff of one full time employee and four part time employees manages QSFA’s daily operations.

ART$ DOLLAR$ provides up to $1,000 in matching funds for locally planned arts projects.  QSFA uses City of Quincy grants and membership income to match funds from the Illinois Arts Council.

MARION GARDNER JACKSON TRUST ARTS FUND will award funds to new arts programs of exceptional artistic merit that increase access to the arts and demonstrate a direct economic impact on Quincy.  The program is funded by the Marion Gardner Jackson Trust and the business and individual members of the Quincy Society of Fine Arts.

ARTS=EDUCATION is a back to basics approach to arts education that uses the arts to ignite students' interest in basic subjects learning.  QSFA's Arts Boosters Group meets once a year to share ideas and resources.

ARTS=EDUCATION RESOURCES GUIDE lists arts programs available to the schools and funding sources for arts programs in the schools.

IN$TANT ART$ DOLLAR$ grants up to $100 to bring local artists to schools or for field trips to museums in Quincy.  Call QSFA for information.

ARTS/QUINCY RIVERFEST is an annual multi-arts festival co-sponsored by QSFA, the Quincy Park District, Refreshment Services Pepsi, Dene Lambkin Honda and WQJC-LP FM.  It is held the third Sunday of September.  Activities are coordinated through the QSFA office as a community service.   The day long festival features local artists, entertainment and food.

CITY OF QUINCY ARTS AWARDS are presented annually for outstanding achievement in the categories of 1)  Individual Artist/Teacher, 2) Arts Organization, 3)  Business Leadership, and 4) Volunteer Leadership.  Awards are also given to the the artist winner and best booth winner of Riverfest. The awards are sponsored by The Quincy Herald-Whig.

ALL-AMERICAN KIDS AWARDS annually recognize unique achievements by young persons up to the age of 14 in the categories of 1) Arts and Humanities, 2)Natural and/or Mathematical Science, and 3)Sports.

ARTS/QUINCY BALL Profits from the formal ball go to support QSFA's national award-winning programs and services.

ARTS/QUINCY, COMMUNITY ARTS PUBLICATION
Over 10,000 issues of Arts/Quincy are published monthly, and over 9,800 are mailed to families in our tri-state market area of 330,000.  Arts/Quincy directly generates approximately 31% of Quincy's performing arts audiences.

News stories for Arts/Quincy should be submitted six weeks in advance of the issue in which they will appear.  Member organizations are asked to list a contact person and phone number for any item submitted.  All individual members of each organization receive Arts/Quincy at no charge. 

ARTS/QUINCY TV AND RADIO SHOW
Produced by WGEM-AM-FM-TV, the Arts/Quincy TV and radio commercials are 30 second Public Service Announcements that are aired on two local television stations, 10 local radio stations, and through Insight Communications.  The Arts/Quincy commercials generate approximately $200,000 annually in free advertising time. Total market coverage for Arts/Quincy programs is 330,000 in our tri-state area.

FUN LINE (217-228-ARTS)
The Fun Line lists the events of QSFA's member organizationsand features the popular selection “Dial-a-writer.”  By calling 228-ARTS,  Quincy residents and tourists can get information 24-hours a day on arts events in Quincy.

INFORMATION/TICKET CENTER
QSFA receives numerous calls asking for information about everything which has anything to do with the arts.  Please see that we have correct and complete information on your organization's activities, as well as a name and phone number of your contact person.                                                                

If you plan to use QSFA's phone number and address in publicity, please be sure the staff is notified and we have complete information.

ARTS MANAGEMENT SERVICES
QSFA keeps in close touch with the Illinois Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, American Council for the Arts, Illinois Arts Alliance, and the National Association of Local Arts Agencies.  We can help in assisting member organizations with contacts and information on these various agencies.  In some cases, assistance can be given in preparation of grant requests.

Staff assistance is available in a number of areas, such as preparing requests for non-profit status, writing of bylaws, articles of incorporation, et cetera.  We encourage all organizations and individual artists to contact the office with questions or problems.  If we do not have the answer, we will try to find it. 

MEMBER ORGANIZATION SERVICES
If your organization requires copying or other clerical needs, we are available to assist you.  We appreciate receiving requests, along with the necessary data, 10 working days prior to desired completion date.  We sometimes have several requests in at one time, and this will enable us to better schedule each project.  Please notify us in advance if you plan on doing a very large job, so we will be sure to have sufficient supplies on hand.  The QSFA office will supply you with service request forms.  Services to all member organizations are at actual labor cost.  Supplies and prices are furnished upon request.

COMPUTER SERVICES
Member organizations are invited to explore the many possibilities available through our computers.  Please stop by the QSFA office to utilize your computer services.

MASTER MAILING LISTS/LABELS
QSFA maintains a master mailing list comprised of more than 9,900 names of persons belonging to QSFA member organizations, schools, etc.

The master arts mailing lists are also available on labels. Organizations may use them to mail out brochures and other informational material.  If you would like to have your own set of labels for your organization, please call for information.       

Please notify the office of such changes as name, address, death of member or requests to be removed from the mailing list.  This will greatly help us in keeping your mailing list up to date.

Computer labels can be provided upon request.  Please call in your order for labels two weeks in advance.  QSFA will bill your organization later, please make sure we have correct billing information.

Please be aware of the specific postal regulations, otherwise, your bulk mail will be rejected by the post office.  The QSFA staff can explain the current procedures to you.

RAVE! TELEVISION PROGRAM
RAVE! is shown locally on CGEM Channel 27, exclusively on Insight Communications.  Produced monthly by WGEM-TV and the Quincy Society of Fine Arts, it is funded in part by a marketing grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.  The program includes interviews with local artists, inside reports on upcoming productions and features on local exhibits.

ARTS/QUINCY ANNUAL MASTER ARTS CALENDAR
QSFA publishes the Arts/Quincy Annual Arts Calendar every August. The Calendar lists events from September 1 through August 31.  Roughly 10,000 Annual Arts Calendars are expected to be printed this year.      

Please notify the office as soon as you have set the dates for your organization's season or event.  QSFA maintains the Master Arts Calendar which helps eliminate many problems in conflict of dates, and in avoidance of similar events scheduled too closely together.

MEDIA GUIDE
The Media Guide was developed by QSFA staff especially for the member organizations and is available upon request.  The guide is a list of sources that will list your organization's information at no charge.

FAX MACHINE
QSFA has a FAX machine that is available for all the member organizations and individual artists to use. 

FACILITIES AND SUPPLIES
All member organizations are welcome and encouraged to visit the Quincy Society of Fine Arts office.  Our hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The computers and printers, adding machines, typewriters, and photocopiers may be used as available; please contact the office for more information.
